Data Privacy Regulations
GDPR and HIPAA
GDPR
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) is a regulation by which the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission intend to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU). It also addresses the export of personal data outside the EU.
HIPAA
HIPAA is the acronym for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act that was passed by US Congress in 1996. Requires the protection and confidential handling of protected health information.
How does it affect you?
Your organization must have implemented a security plan if it makes use of personal data.
Fines for non-compliance could cost millions.
You should protect data even if you only have it in your possession temporarily (e.g., you download a document to your computer to work on it).

How can Oficloud help?

Encrypted data IS NOT personal data. Oficloud encrypts all data end-to-end (E2E). This means that only you can decrypt it and we, the storage provider, do not have access to any personal data.

Personal data regulations do not apply to any data that is not personal data, and encrypted data IS NOT personal data.

Your data can be stored at any location given that it's not personal data (for example, outside the EU even if the GDPR applies to you).

Oficloud does not require your team to do anything special to make sure that your data is protected: Your data is always encrypted by default. That doesn't happen with any other cloud storage service.
